Artikasan is a multimedia project about sustainable art materials and practices that seeks to encourage the fusion of creativity and environmental consciousness to art students in the Philippines through a collection of articles, artist interviews, visuals, and guides that are all contained in one website.
THE IDEA BEHIND THE PROJECT
Sustainability in the Philippine art scene is a practice that has been present for the past years and is being implemented by a few artists. In recent years, more people have been taking an interest in the topic, which resulted in the conceptualization of a project that would introduce artists to more sustainable practices and materials through an e-magazine and a website.
The project name is a portmanteau of the English word “artist” and the Filipino word “kalikasan.” This represents the goal of blending sustainable materials into artists’ creative processes. The name Artikasan represents the goal of encouraging artists to make conscious environmental decisions as they create their artworks.
